Lessons will focus on the musical, technical and artistic development of the student.
Attention will be given to:
- Reading of musical notation
- Understanding of the theoretical aspects of music
- Technical development of playing the piano
- Creativity and composition
- Aural development
To aid the development of the above, the following will also be included on occasion:
- Singing
- Playing of percussion or drums
- Playing of xylophones/glockenspiels
Tasks will be recorded in a homework notebook, and students will be expected to repeat/revise the activities done in the lesson at home. To achieve success, it is very important they develop a routine of playing their instrument daily. Parents are encouraged to support their child and show an interest in their musical journey by:
- Asking them to show what they have learnt
- Being positive and excited about their progress
- Making a time in the day for music
- Asking the child to teach them how to do what they have learnt
Parental behaviour that discourages success:
- Constantly nagging children to practise
- Punishing them if they have not practised
- Telling them off if they are playing other music or creating new pieces at the piano.
If students are very busy and are constantly running from one activity to the other, achieving
success in playing the piano is very difficult.
Ultimately, it is the child’s choice to learn to play an instrument. With guidance and support
from the parent, the child should learn to take responsibility for preparing for lessons.
A lesson can be rescheduled or a credit can be given if:
1). 24 hours notice is required if a student is unable to attend a lesson due to an important appointment
2). If I am contacted before 8.00 am on the day of the lesson if a student is unwell.
I will purchase the required books and charge it to the student’s account.
Fees for Music lessons: $45.00 per 30 min
- Depending on the level and age of the student, lessons could be extended to 40 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
- An invoice for the full school term will be emailed and parents are expected to pay within 14 days of receiving the invoice. Parents can also arrange with me to pay per lesson or per month.
- Either an electronic transfer or cash will be acceptable.
Lessons will not normally take place during school holidays, but on occasion special arrangements may be made.
